The Must-Watch Films of Summer 2017

If the weather is any indication, Summer is in full effect. You all know the only thing I like better during Summer months than the rum punch and BBQs are the blockbusters that Hollywood promises us every year.

While compiling my list of films this year, I must admit that I was a bit underwhelmed. Usually, I will have 10 or more films on my radar to watch this summer while this year I only have five. But while the number may be small in comparison to previous years, I am still very excited about these films listed below.

Here are the five must-watch films of summer 2017; they’re a mixture of genres but all are sure to make more than a few dollars at the box office.

All Eyez on Me – June 16th

The story of Tupac Shakur is finally being brought to the big screen. The casting in this film looks to be really good. Demetrius Shipp Jr.’s resemblance to the legendary rapper is uncanny.

Spiderman: Homecoming – July 7th

Now I will be the first to admit that I rolled my eyes when I heard Spiderman was being revamped AGAIN. “Didn’t we have enough do-overs?” Two things make me want to watch this movie: Marvel is in charge of it and Zendaya is one of the stars.

Girls Trip – July 21st

Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith? Count me in! I love me a good raunchy film anyway. I’ll get a few of the girls together and we’ll make this a night out on the town.

Atomic Blonde – July 28th

“The first female 007 is here. ”

Now I’m not sure if this film will live up to that particular statement, but I love a kick-ass movie filled with action and gore, so I’m in.

Detroit – August 4th

I’ve been a fan of Anthony Mackie since 8 Mile but the fact that’s he the Falcon in the Marvel Universe means I’ll watch anything he’s in. I’m very intrigued by Detroit though, that is based on the Algiers Motel incident during Detroit’s 12th Street riot in Detroit. I’m a bit surprised that it’s premiering at this time of the year though. I thought a movie with this content would premiere closer to awards season.

What movies are you looking forward to this summer?

P.S. I did not include Wonder Woman because it has already been released at the time of this post.
