Trailer: Maurice Benard in ‘The Ghost and the Whale’

So I am apparently very late on this film. While scrolling through Twitter last week, I came across a tweet from Maurice Benard referencing The Ghost and the Whale. I had no idea what it was or when this was filmed. As I always do when I lack information, I asked my good old friend Google. Turns out Benard filmed this a while back and a trailer first surfaced sometime last year.

I have stated before that I am a huge fan of Maurice Benard. It is no secret that his character on General Hospital, Sonny Corinthos, was perhaps my first crush EVER. Any new project that Benard is interested in, I would love to support.

The Ghost and the Whale starts Benard as Joseph, a bi-polar who returned from sea without his wife, Annabel. His wife’s disappearance shook the small town of Bodega and this disappearance coupled with his exoneration created a divide.

One year later, journalist Ed rolls into town to cover the untold story of what happened.  This proves to be a very hard task as Joseph has relapsed. He alternates between a state of pensive sadness and mania. It seems that the only way Joseph finds a little bit of piece is when he visits his only friend by the water, a gray whale.

After being in jail for 10 years, Annabel’s brother returns home to get his revenge. Now Ed and Joseph must figure out a way to survive long enough to find the truth.

Check out the trailer below:

There doesn’t seem to be much information about the film’s release date. However, while scrolling through the film’s twitter timeline, it seems that they are trying to secure distribution. It has gotten great reviews while on the film festival circuit so hopefully we get an update soon.

The Ghost and the Whale stars Maurice Benard, James Gaudioso, Monica Keena, Dominic Bogart, Kelley Flynn, and Bryan McKinley.
