The Must Watch TV Shows of Summer 2016

Some of television’s best can be found during the Summer months.  With my network faves on hiatus, I use the summer to dive into more television (if that’s even possible), and always find one or two new shows to add to my ever growing list. Summer used to be where TV shows went to die, but not anymore.

Here are the must watch tv shows of summer 2016, both new and returning.

NEW

Tuesday, July 19
“Shooter” (USA) at 10 p.m./9c
I liked Mark Wahlberg’s movie of the same name so I’m interested to see Ryan Philippe’s take on the small screen adaptation.

Tuesday, June 21
“Greenleaf” (OWN) at 10 p.m./9c

This is the new show I am most excited about this summer. Oprah Winfrey produces this family drama about the lives of an equally rich and scandalous family who run a Memphis megachurch.

RETURNING

Monday, June 6
“Rizzoli & Isles” (TNT) at 9 p.m./8c

This show has already started but it’s worth going back to watch the two previously aired episodes this season. Rizzoli & Isles takes its final bow this season as we watch the cop/doctor best friend duo save crime for the last time.

Wednesday, July 13
“Suits” (TNT) at 9 p.m./8c

A one time Suits fanatic, I slipped a bit the last two seasons but have been spending the last couple of weeks catching up. Season 6 will show us how famed law firm, Pearson Specter Litt, will have to rebuild after all of their employees left at the end of last season.

Sunday, July 17
“Power” (Starz) at 9 p.m./8c

Power is one of my top 5 shows currently on air. Phenomenal writing and a fantastic cast make it hard for me to turn away. Power returns for Season 3 this summer with one major theme, “Ghost Must Die”.

What summer shows, both new and returning, are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments below!

P.S. I have to make note of the well-done Roots remake that aired simultaneously on A&E, Lifetime and the History Channel for four nights last week. Though it has now aired, I strongly encourage you all to watch it online via one of the channel’s websites, on demand, or catch a replay. It was definitely must-see television.
