So I have recently checked out Starz’s new show, Survivor’s Remorse and they have a new fan!

Yes, I know that I am VERY late to this party but that couldn’t be helped. I do not have Starz and all of my regular prime time shows are back in full effect. Juggling what seems to 20 new episodes of television a week is no joke! Hence why my reviews for Gotham have been virtually non existent the past few weeks but we’re not going to talk about that. Winter finales are upon us but I can guarantee I will be back in top form for all my reviews (even the ones I promised but you never saw ONE) soon.

Anyway, I finally watched the premiere episode about two weeks ago and it’s one that is going to stay on my radar.

Created by Mike O’Malley and executive produced by Lebron James, Survivor’s Remorse follows Cam Calloway, played by Jessie. T. Usher, a young basketball phenom who has just signed a very lucrative contract with an Atlanta team. The show follows him as he tries to navigate this new life. He has moved his whole family with him to Atlanta and he has to now find a balance between spending his newly earned money, learning how much to give to family and friends and wanting to give back to his community. The premise and inside peek above had me believing that this would be a run of the mill comedy series but I was pleasantly surprised. There are fully fleshed out and layered characters and the content is funny yet gritty and self aware without being too hokey.

Without giving too much away I will say that it is turning out to be a surprise sleeper show for me.

Also starring Mike Epps, Tichina Arnold, Teyonah Parris and Erica Ash, it’s six episode freshman season has recently ended but has already been renewed for a second season. I am currently on episode three and will probably finish it up this weekend.
