No one man should have all this POWER
During the “off season” for my network television shows, one new show that has unexpectedly sparked my interest has been Power which is currently on Starz.
Produced by 50 Cent, it stars Omari Hardwick with Naturi Naughton, LeLa Loren and Joseph Sikora [LaLa Anthony also guest stars]. It follows Hardwick as James St. Patrick; the owner of one of the hottest clubs, Truth, in the city that never sleeps . Truth, however, is just a front for his real money maker. He is one of the biggest drug distributors in New York catering to only the wealthy and most powerful. In the streets, he is simply known as “Ghost”.
Power takes us on the journey as Ghost lives a double life and is increasingly seduced by the idea of living a legitimate life. Old demons, friends and enemies make it even harder for this to become a reality, however, as he begins to question if he can really ever get out.
Filled with sex, drugs, and of course murder – it has been a nice little distraction while I pine away and await the return of Scandal and Person of Interest. With the first season still underway, Starz has already green lit a second season which boasts well for this gritty underground drama.
Kudos to Starz as well for showing a commitment to something a little different. I have to check the ratings for the show but I’m sure the increase in black audience that the show attracts is not a bad thing.
I may decide to do a full review after this season is over and then an episode by episode breakdown once the second season starts, which will probably be sometime next year. I haven’t decided as yet but in the mean time Starz has made the first episode available online for free which is good for those of us who do not subscribe to them. I’ve included the video above, check it out as this may even give you a reason to get Starz. They have recently included some really great original programming and I am now a consistent viewer.
P.S. Reason # 2955 why 50 Cent should just leave music alone, so many of his other ventures are doing well.Stop rapping -_-
