Three Books That Should Be Made Into Movies

We all know that I firm in my belief that when a book is adapted into a film, it hardly ever does the book justice. That is why I surprised myself when I starting writing this post.

There are some books where I immediately picture the main characters. I picture their eyes, their hair, the type of clothing they would wear and their gait. I picture the city they live in and the type of coffee shops they visit. This isn’t necessarily unusual for me, but there are a few times when I find myself thinking about it weeks after I’ve finished the book. This is when I start to think, “Well… maybe they should make a film.” I start to write a short list of actors I feel would be good in the roles and I let my imagination run wild.

I really felt this way after reading Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and only after reading it, did I find out that a film will be released next year. After completing that book, I compiled a list. I thought about all of the books, that if the screenplay is done right, would make a great movie.

THREE BOOKS THAT SHOULD BE MOVIES

So here’s my shortlist of the three books that should be made into movies:

Bared To You by Sylvia Day

I have mentioned this before, but I’ve always felt like this series was what the Fifty Shades trilogy should have been. In my opinion, it has more depth and the characters are more relatable. I love a storyline where the two main characters both have past demons that they have to work through it together in order to make it. There are five parts to this series and while I don’t think that many films would be necessary, a nice two-parter would suffice.

With Every Breath by Maureen Smith

I am a sucker for a good romance as you all know, but romantic suspense novels? There’s a special place in my heart for them. With Every Breath, to me, is a very underrated romance novel and it doesn’t get the credit that it deserves. Smith has a knack for romantic suspense novels and With Every Breath is no different. The dynamic between the two main characters, Garrison and Imani, is one of my favorites. This book is the ultimate game of cat and mouse and Smith does a great job balancing the white-hot romance and the nerve-wracking suspense. Garrison makes a fine hero and honestly, he can save me any day of the week!

I don’t know if I quite see this one on the big screen, but I definitely think it would make a great TV movie with the right script.

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

This is still one of the best books I’ve read in the past two years. I wrote a review on it last year which you can read here. The story is prime for a motion picture. Kidd has had great success with The Secret Life of Bees and I am sure the same attention to detail and great acting can be transferred to The Invention of Wings. This is potentially Academy Award winning material if the film is done right.

So there you have it! Those are three books that should be made into movies. What books do you think should be made into a film? Let me know in the comments below!
