There’s the truth you know….

At age 16, Athena Hamilton traded her body for survival when a powerful Vegas hotelier and pimp lured her into his world. Ten years of turning tricks has taught her to trust no one and feel nothing. Yet a chance meeting with a childhood crush sparks hope for something more.

The truth you believe…

There’s no way Isaiah Martin could want her. He’s a pastor. Too good. Too pure. But when she learns her days are numbered, she runs into the safety of his arms and trusts his promise of protection.

And the truth you never imagined...

The aftermath of a tragic accident and a bitter betrayal leaves her destitute and alone. The one man she shouldn’t trust offers her a chance to escape. But when good and evil collide, what do you do when the truth is Obscured?

Tara Sure Me switches things up a bit with her latest offering, Obscured, and writes this book as Cat Waters.

This storyline may be a little departure for fans who are used to Tara Sue Me’s Submissive series, however, Obscured still has the flair that we’ve come to know.

A short read at under 200 pages, Obscured, definitely keeps your attention. It dims some of the lights that constantly surrounds Las Vegas; we enter the world of sex trafficking.

Athena becomes a call girl at the ripe age of 16 after experiencing family tragedy. The man she thought loved her turns out to be just a pimp who is not interested in her heart but ultimately in how much money she can make with her body.

While running late to a meeting with one her clients, she runs into someone from her past; Isaiah. He’s a pastor now living in Vegas and is looking for somewhere to hold his services. Danger causes Athena to seek refuge and she turns to the other person who reminds her of something familiar. Isaiah makes her feel at home but is he really everything he seems?

After Athena goes to Isaiah, all of the other dominoes start to fall. People aren’t who they seem to be, half truths are told, and many lives are in danger. Mike’s right-hand man, Harris, and Athena’s closest friend Vicki play important roles as well. Keep your eye on them for two very separate reasons.

I can say this book took me by surprise. I was expecting a variation of your run-of-the-mill erotic romance but was proven wrong. This was a suspenseful romance that admittedly took me by surprise. I had predicted a different ending once I began reading this book. By the time I got to the middle, I realized that I was off in my assumption which I did not mind. It’s always refreshing when a book surprises you.

As this book was so short, I am being very careful not to spill too much or else I risk giving away with the whole story. This is a very thin line I’m walking on as I would like to dive into more details, but you will just need to read it to find out more.

I think fans of Tara Sue Me definitely won’t mind the work as  Cat Waters. It’s also possible to say that this will turn into a series as this book left on a cliffhanger of sorts. While most would be contented with the ending, readers may have some questions that I for one definitely would like the answer to.

You’ll be angry at Athena’s life choices, but you’ll sympathize with her plight. While short, Obscured packs enough punch and is one that I would recommend.
