Blog Tour and Interview with Delaney Diamond, Author of More Than A Mistress
Author Delaney Diamond is back with a new book, More Than A Mistress, which was released last month. If you are unfamiliar with Delaney Diamond but are a fan of passionate romance novels and series you can simply can’t put down, you’ll love her novels. Today, I not only have details on the new book but an exclusive interview with Miss Diamond and information on a special giveaway you all should enter. Stay tuned early next week for a review of this book as well.
Your newest release, More Than A Mistress, is the 5th book in the Latin Men series. For readers that may be unfamiliar with the series, tell us a little bit about it.
The Latin Men series was started back in 2010 and began with my very first published novella, The Arrangement. The series is about Latin men from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Ecuador—all of whom are wealthy and powerful but fall madly in love with women who bring them to their knees. It’s a fun series to write because I get to incorporate Latin culture into the storyline, which includes foreign settings and delicious food. I also enjoy writing about alpha males who control everything in their lives, except when it comes to matters of the heart. Haha.
Where do you find the inspiration for your stories?
My inspiration can come from almost anywhere. Conversations with friends, magazine articles, TV shows—literally anywhere.
You’ve written quite a few books over the years, do you have a favorite character? If so, who is it and why?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite character, but some of the characters stay with me for different reasons. For instance, I have a girl crush on Samirah Jamison from Private Acts (book 3 of the Latin Men series), lol. Before she fell in love, she was living the dream, traveling around the world and just living life to the fullest. I travel a couple of times per year, but I would love to take a long period and live like a nomad for a bit, like Samirah.
I also see quite a bit of myself in Alannah Bailey, from Just Friends (book 3 of the Johnson Family series). Like her, when I was younger I used to be very reserved and dressed conservatively. As I grew older and experienced more in my life, I broke free of those self-imposed restraints, so I related to her coming into her own in the novel.
Then there’s Terri, from The Rules (book 4 of the Johnson Family series), who suffered a lot in a previous relationship and made some mistakes in her past but still managed to be strong, funny, and sexy. Pairing her and Gavin together gave them a chance to draw strength from each other because of similarity in their pasts and the guilt they both carried. I like them separately and as a couple.
What is your favorite part about being an author?
Freedom! Ultimately I’m responsible for all decisions and the trajectory of my career, which is great—but that means all decisions—even the ones where there are missteps. Any self-published author will tell you that what we do is time-consuming because we are the author, marketer, business manager, etc. We have to wear many hats and manage the process from writing the book to publishing it, to marketing it. I analyze everything, so I can learn from my mistakes and successes, and I pay attention to my peers in the industry.
I also get a thrill when I hear from readers, whether it’s via email or on social media, or in reviews. It’s an incredibly humbling but exhilarating feeling to know that people are reading what I write, enjoying it, and telling others. That readers get excited for the next book in a series or want to tell me how much they enjoyed a book I wrote always puts a smile on my face and makes me feel a little giddy.
You recently started a digital-first press, Garden Avenue Press. Why did you decide to do that?
I saw a need for it. Despite the opportunities presented by ebooks and self-publishing, over the years, I’ve been approached by aspiring authors or published authors who ask me questions about publishing, marketing, etc. The entire process can be quite daunting, particularly when there are “services” out there happy to take money from unsuspecting authors who simply want to have their work published and read.
I see Garden Avenue Press—aka GAP—as filling the “gap” for authors who would like to be published but don’t have the time to devote to self-publishing. Or perhaps they’re already published but would like to work with GAP and reach a broader audience. Whatever the reason, GAP is available to help take an author’s career—whether they’re new to publishing or want to expand their reach—to the next level.
Rapid Fire Questions
Favorite romance novel: Ooh, that’s too hard. I have favorite authors: Beverly Jenkins, Maureen Smith, Nia Forester, among others—depending on my mood.
Favorite TV show: Modern Family
Favorite movie: It’s a toss-up between Love Actually and Curse of the Golden Flower. The movies are nothing alike, but I liked both of them enough to watch twice.
Which one of your books would you like to see on the big screen? Another tough question. Ummm, I’d love to see an on-screen interpretation of Just Friends, with the models I chose to represent the characters on my Pinterest page.
I have to ask, as a fellow Caribbean girl myself, what is your favorite Caribbean dish?
Virgin Islands stuffing. It’s a popular dish around the holidays.
About More Than A Mistress
Will their arrangement ever be enough?
Relationships are not a priority for restaurateur Esteban Galiano, and when he sees Sonia Kennedy at a party, he plans to make her a conquest in a long line of many. But she rebuffs his advances and forces him to adjust—determined to meet the challenge and do whatever he must to make her his.
All her life, Sonia’s beauty has caused unnecessary problems, and right now she needs a job, not a suitor. When Esteban makes an indecent proposal, her first instinct is to turn him down. But soon she’s rethinking her response. Maybe it’s time for her to use what she’s got, to get what she wants.
