Who’s on top? Matchmaker and stationery shop owner Matilda Davies brings people together. For those on her list, Tilda will find the man or woman of their dreams—whether it’s for an hour or a lifetime. But due to a painful past, the British expat has never put her own name on the list. Instead, she limits herself to emotionless and commitment-free hookups. Then she meets Daniel, who wants not just her body, but also her heart… Daniel Logan hides the soul of a poet under the suit and tie of an FBI agent. Specializing in financial crimes, he pieces together stories of greed and ensures justice is done. He plays by the rules—until he meets Tilda. He’s drawn in by her passion as well as her mysteriousness. Daniel knows that no matter her secrets, he’s the perfect match for Tilda. But even pleasure doesn’t come with a guarantee…
I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review.
We read a lot of romance novels where the two protagonists fall in love and get married after a very short period of time. Very rare do we see what happens after they have said “I do”. That is one of the things I really loved about Anne Calhoun’s latest book, The List. She pulled back the curtain a bit and showed us Matilda and Daniel’s love story before and after they got married.
We first meet the two six months into their marriage and the book takes on us their journey from when they first meet on a ledge 20 stories above Manhattan up until their current situation.
He asks her to marry him because he loves her.
She says yes even though she doesn’t think it will last.
She’s the best woman he’s ever met, he wants to possess her and keep her close so that she never leaves.
Her heart says this is the perfect man, her mind says don’t taint him.
She is on the verge of becoming a global brand and has little time for a man. Daniel is determined to figure her out and will fit in as best as he can.
The List is perfectly paced with the right amount of intense emotions and believable plot which makes this book hard to put down.
Admittedly, I had only read one of Anne Calhoun’s books so I wasn’t that familiar with her style before reading this but I am now definitely a fan.
The List is available for pre-order now and will be released on March 3, 2015.
