Read-A-Romance Month Interview Series: Lindsay Evans
August is Read-A-Romance Month and all month, we are celebrating this beloved genre. In this exclusive interview series, I am talking with some of my favorite romance authors.
Today the spotlight is on fellow island girl, Lindsay Evans; a writer of sexy and sensual love stories.
August is Read-A-Romance Month, why is writing (and reading) romance important to you?
I love reading romance mostly because it’s such a simple pleasure in a world of complicated pain and challenges. When you open a novel, you know there are problems but most can be solved with love and in three hundred or so words. A Romance is a chocolate and aspirin both for the soul.
Writing romance is miraculous to me. It gives me a chance to create stories like the ones I’ve loved since I was a child and to positively affect someone the way that certain authors influenced me back then. Not to mention it allows me to connect with people all over the world through my words.
When did you know you wanted to be an author?
Since I was a child, I’ve loved the physical act of writing. I learned to write cursive pretty early and that grew to a love of writing stories then wanting to share those stories. I won third place in a writing contest in high school and have been sharing my writing since then.
Where do you find the inspiration for your stories?
Mostly from my travels. I try to go somewhere different at least once a year and I’m usually inspired by something I see, experience, or by someone I meet.
What is your favorite part about being an author?
It’s hard to choose, there are so many good things about it. I love the freedom it gives me to travel while working, but I also love talking with people who’ve read and enjoyed my work. Those conversations let me know I’m doing something right ☺.
Do you have a special writing routine? Any must-haves before you start a project?
I generally try to treat the writing like a 9-5 job in some ways. Unless I have a deadline that means starting earlier, I get out of bed at 8 and start working by 9 or 10. As for my must-haves, either tea or coffee. Something hot to get the juices flowing!
Do you have a favorite character that you’ve written? If so, who is it and why?
I loved writing Nichelle from AFFAIR OF PLEASURE. She’s so take charge and fun—her shoe collection is amazing. Plus, I named her after the wonderful Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura from Star Trek) which automatically makes her very dear to my heart.
What book of yours do you think would serve as the perfect introduction to someone who may be unfamiliar with your work?
That’s a hard one! But it would probably be UNTAMED LOVE with Mella and Victor. She’s an unconventional heroine, which I love writing about, and she and Victor have great physical chemistry. I like to think sexy storylines and unusual female leads are my trademarks.
Rapid Fire Questions:
Favorite romance novel: Taste for Temptation by Phyllis Bourne
Favorite romance author: Rebekah Weatherspoon
Favorite TV show: Stranger Things (those kids are adorable!)
Favorite movie: People Places Things with Regina Hall, Jemaine Clement, and Jessica Williams.
Which one of your books would you like to see on the big screen? – Affair of Pleasure (it’s set in Morocco and super sexy!)
I have to ask, as a fellow Caribbean girl myself, what is your favorite Caribbean dish? – Ackee and Saltfish. I could eat it all day, every day. And it’s Jamaica’s national dish!
