Five Films To Watch in 2015
One of my favorite things to do is go to the movies. I have no problem going to the movie theater by myself when there is something I really want to see. I probably go on average twice a month though last year there weren’t that many films that really caught my eye. 2015 looks like it will be different though as I have already seen trailers for about a dozen films that I will definitely see.
With that being said, here are the five films to watch in 2015:
Fifty Shades of Grey
Premiering Valentine’s Day, the adaptation of E.L. James popular trilogy will be available for viewing. While I had mixed feelings about the book and don’t have high expectations for the film, I can’t stay away. Maybe I’ll revisit the books right before it premieres ( I doubt it but hey, you never know).
Selma
This film has seen limited release since December but will open nationwide January 9th. Directed by Ava DuVernay (love her!) and starring David Oyelowo as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Selma is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting right marches led by James Bevel, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Hosea Williams and John Lewis. This is a very important film to watch especially in light of recent events. Already Golden Globe nominated, this film is sure to be an Oscar contender especially in Best Director and Actor categories. I’ll be watching it this weekend.
Tak3n
I highlighted the trailer and have spoken of my love for Liam Neeson so it should be of no surprise that I am very much looking forward to Tak3n. I know some of you don’t like the franchise and are probably wondering what else are they going to do since it is slightly predictable but I don’t care! Premiering on January 9th, same day that Selma opens nationwide, I will be at the earliest showing. (I will be watching both of these films on the 9th.)
Furious 7
I am a huge fan of The Fast and the Furious franchise, even more so after Justin Lin took it over and really revitalized it and changed the way the story was told. He will not be back for Furious 7, James Wan has taken the helm, but I am still very interested to see where this film will go. Unfortunately as we all know, the film’s star Paul Walker was tragically killed in an accident while on break from filming this movie. While he had completed the majority of his scenes, his brothers stepped in to fill the gap. Audiences will be on their edge of their seat dreading the goodbye to this beloved character but anxious to see the send off. Furious 7 premieres in the US on April 3.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Did you really think that this wouldn’t be on the list? Of course it would. I have spoken extensively about my love for all things Marvel and I loved the first Avengers movie so it’s a no brainer. I will definitely be one of those people at the theater thirty minutes before the movie starts so that I can get a seat allllllllll the way in the back. I might even break out my Marvel t-shirt. Yes I have one, you can judge me all you want. Avengers: Age of Ultron will make its way to theaters on May 1st, 2015.
Honorable Mention:
Focus – February 27, 2015
The Boy Next Door – January 23, 2015
