Beyond The Lights
One thing I love about going to movie theaters, aside from watching the actual movie of course, is seeing trailers for upcoming films. I watched No Good Deed this afternoon, which was entertaining and an overall solid movie, and I came across a couple of films that I must keep on my radar.
One that caught my eye was Beyond The Lights starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Minnie Driver and Nate Parker. The trailer makes note that this is the work of Gina Prince-Bythewood, the writer and director of Love and Basketball. Now I don’t know many people who are not fans of that modern day classic – if you happen to be one that isn’t, come and let’s watch it together and I’m sure I will change your mind! Not only did Gina Prince-Bythewood direct Love & Basketball but she also directed The Secret Life of Bees which starred Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah. Now do you understand why I am excited about this?!
Check out the trailer:
Per Wikipedia:
Beyond the Lights is the story of Noni Jean, a hot new artist who has just won a Grammy and is primed for stardom. But the pressures of success compel her to nearly end her life until she is saved by a young police officer. They fall hard for each other, despite the protests of their parents who want each to focus on their own career ambitions. But he might be the missing piece to unlock her artistic potential.
Beyond The Lights opens on November 14th (one day before my birthday, yay!!)
P.S. Doesn’t Nate Parker look just scrumptious in this trailer? Yes I am shallow, don’t judge me.
