I was not ready to say goodbye to Gideon and Eva Cross and my beloved Crossfire series. I knew that I would have a hard time parting with this couple we’ve been reading about for a few years, but I didn’t realize I would react this way. #dontjudgeme
I will be the first to admit that I was a little disappointed in the fourth installment, Captivated by You. I thought it dragged on a bit and some parts seemed unnecessary. It made me a bit hesitant for this last book because I started to believe that maybe a trilogy was best.
Welp! I was surely wrong.
Day redeemed herself, in my eyes, with this book. It brought back vintage Gideon and Eva; the drama, the secrets, the enemies, and the love that anchors them both.
Instead of giving a normal review for this book, I decided to share my favorite parts of the novel (which were plenty!).
Here are my three favorite lines from One With You:
“I nodded, no longer afraid to admit that we needed each other to a degree some would consider unhealthy. It was who we were, what we had. And it was precious.”
“I needed him to know he could drop his guard, take a breath, and I could protect us both.”
“And I let go of my grief in the shelter of his arms, knowing that whether in joy or pain, Gideon was one with me.”

A lot went on in this book; a bit more than I think fans anticipated. While a lot of it was sad and gut wrenching, there was a lot of good in One With You as well. There was growth with Gideon and Eva and that was something I had wanted for a long time. I’ve been waiting to see some evolution and after five books, I’ve finally seen it and believed it.
Gideon and Eva’s love is messy, dysfunctional, co-dependent, and dangerous at times. However, it’s always been real; even when I didn’t agree with MANY of their decisions, I always believed in the love.
Fans of Sylvia Day will love the final installment in Gideon and Eva’s love story. They’ll grate on your nerves at times but you’ll remember why you fell in love with these two. For those of you who haven’t heard of these series, I suggest you start by picking up Bared to You; you won’t regret it. Gideon Cross has a way of putting you under his spell.
Bonus line has to go to Eva in the scene where she confronted a certain someone (trying not to give any spoilers!):
” ‘Who do you think monsters marry, you stupid bitch?’ I walked back to her. ‘Pretty little breakable girls? Or other monsters?” I pushed up into her face. “You got the fairy tale right. But Gideon’s the beauty. I’m the beast.’ “
Score five for Eva, she gave me a little Cyrus Beene there and I was not mad about it at all.
