6 Podcasts You Will Love

I was a little late to the podcast party and perhaps like a few of you really became fascinated with them after the success of Serial. While I had listened to a few before then including The B.S. Report with Bill Simmons, I didn’t really have a rotation of shows until Serial. Now I have several that I obsessively check in with each week. I tune into many a podcast with topics ranging from politics and pop culture; lifestyle and self-help; to film and television. While we can be here for hours talking about all of those I have checked out at least once, I have narrowed it down to my favorite podcasts.

SIX PODCASTS YOU WILL LOVE (1)

Take a look at 6 podcasts you will love!

The Lively Show with Jess Lively

I only recently heard about this show when Myleik Teele (who you will see mentioned a few times in this post) appeared as a featured guest. I liked the style and structure of the show and was intrigued enough to check out Jess Lively’s website and other episodes. Since then I have subscribed to her podcast and have listened to maybe about 30 or so of them already. The weekly podcast is designed “to add a little extra intention to your everyday.” Episodes touch on various topics such as personal habits, career and relationships.

Key Influencer Show with James Andrew

This is another show that I fell in love with courtesy of Myleik Teele. Each week, James invites you to be a fly on the wall as he has enlightening conversations with “disrupters”. These are the people who understand the importance of having a distinct brand voice, embracing and staying true to the culture and who are killing the digital game.

Dear Sugar with Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond

Dear Sugar, the popular and beloved advice column from The Rumpus, is back. This time instead of written letters on the site, Sugar is invading our car stereos and headphones with their podcast. This podcast is hosted by the original Sugars, Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond, and it answers all your questions. From the cruel, twisty and dark to the lighthearted and fun; the Sugars are not afraid to go there. As fans of Dear Sugar know, all questions will indeed be answered with the love and empathy we have come to expect.

 Shondaland Revealed with Betsy Beers

As a gladiator, this podcast had to make this list. Every week, executive producer Betsey Beers takes listeners behind the scenes with the cast and creators of ABC’s Shondaland Shows. Storylines are discussed (as much as they can reveal of course), characters are deconstructed and fan questions are answered.

 MyTaughtYou with Myleik Teele

Myleik Teele is the founder of CurlBOX, a widely successful monthly subscription service specializing in hair products for those with naturally curly hair. She is also the voice behind mytaughtyou.com and the E-Mentor to many, including me.  I don’t remember how I found out about her and it doesn’t matter at this point because now I am a lifetime fan; of her killer work ethic, success and authenticity. Her podcast is one that I enjoy immensely with wide ranging topics for both young and old; seasoned professionals and college newbies, and everyone in between. She gives it it to you raw and uncut. For all of the success she has attained, her podcast still makes you feel as if it is just the two of you having a conversation.

MyTaughtYou episodes can be found on her website, podmatic and on iTunes. From everything to networking secrets, how to organize your 2015 goals. and therapy; Myleik has nuggets of wisdom for EVERYTHING.

The Read with Kid Fury and Crissle

I look forward to pressing play on a new episode every Thursday on my ride home from work. Kid Fury and Crissle bring a refreshingly REAL perspective to popular media. They are black, they are queer and they are EVERYTHING! I am here for every bit of it. Truth be told, I’ve been a Kid Fury STAN for a while and when I first heard about this podcast, I was in my glee!

The podcast’s structure includes a “Black Excellence” segment as well as reader’s letters, however much of the show is reserved for the latest happennings in the world of pop culture and current news. It was called “Bitch, you guessed it!” but at present time, Kid Fury was searching for a new name. Most of these new items can be heard through various other outlets but it’s the way the hosts of The Read break down the topics, relating them to their lives while providing the necessary snarky comments that make it worth while.

The highlight of all episodes of course is “The Read,” where each host brings an issue that they want to address directly in almost a monologue fashion that can range from “tears in my eyes” funny to breathtakingly serious. No one is safe. From Best Buy to George Zimmerman; Kid Fury and Crissle are not afraid to let everyone know exactly how they feel.

Kid Fury and Crissle regularly take this show on the road and can be found in a city near by, check out thereadlive.com for dates.

But can we put together a petition to see if they can come to Tampa or even Orlando please? I would greatly appreciate it!
