Author Spotlight: Beverly Jenkins
August is Read A Romance Month! In celebration of my favorite genre, I am highlighting some of my favorite romance authors.
What can I say about Beverly Jenkins that hasn’t been said? She’s simply phenomenal. In high school, I was faintly aware of the dominance of historical romances but had read very few. There weren’t many out there, I thought, that were for me. The ones I picked up didn’t have very many characters of color if any and I needed that. I tried maybe 2 or 3 novels and then I kind of abandoned the sub-genre for a bit. Fast forward a couple years and I stumbled across Beverly Jenkins. I don’t know what took me so long but I’m here to stay and that’s all that matters.
NPR describes Beverly Jenkins as someone who “wraps bitter history in sweet romance”, and I could not agree more. I’ve learned so much from reading her books that it’s propelled me to expand on the knowledge gained from her books, on the real life persons some of her characters are based on.
For new and old fans of Beverly Jenkins, I would strongly recommend reading this conversation she had with NPR.
Of course with Indigo being my favorite historical romance, I suggest you all read that if you haven’t already. Even if you have, read it again.
