I’m in a few reading challenges for 2017 so I’ll be stretching myself in terms of the genres and lengths of books that I plan to read this year.
However, aside from that, you all know that I am a huge fan of the pre-order button. As a s result, I took a look at my Amazon digital orders last week and noticed that I already have quite a few books on my list. If we are being honest, that number will increase over the next few months. More of my favorite authors will release new books, and I’ll probably stumble across a new person or two that I’m willing to give to give a chance. In addition to new books, there are a quite a few that have been released within the past year or even later that I’ve had marked for a long time to read. This year is also the year for me to put a dent in those.
But as of right now, here are 5 books I’m definitely reading in 2017, along with the publisher’s description.
Finding Gideon – Eric Jerome Dickey – April 18, 2017
I am very much a fan of this series by EJD for a while and when we went so long without another installment to this saga, I thought we would never hear from Gideon again.
“A professional job turns personal for jet-setting contract killer Gideon in this sexy, thrilling page-turner by New York Times bestselling author Eric Jerome Dickey.
As a hit man from the time he was very young, money, women, and danger have always ruled Gideon’s life; but for the first time, it’s taking its toll. Neither Gideon nor the city of Buenos Aires has recovered from the mayhem caused during Gideon’s last job. But before the dust has settled and the bodies have been buried, Gideon calls in backup—including the lovely Hawks, with whom Gideon has heated memories—to launch his biggest act of revenge yet . . . one he believes will destroy his adversary, Midnight, once and for all.
Yet Midnight and his second-in-command, the beautiful and ruthless Señorita Raven, are launching their own revenge, assembling a team of mercenaries the likes of which the world has never seen… and Gideon isn’t their only target. Gideon will need all of his skills if he is to save not only his team, but his family as well.
Dickey’s new novel stirs up a whirlwind of sex and violence that spans the globe . . . and leaves no moral boundary uncrossed.”
Boss by Tracy Brown – April 4, 2017
I’ve loved Tracy’s Brown White Lines series so I’m interested in seeing what she does with this new standalone.
“Empire meets Scandal meets Romeo and Juliet with an edgy twist in Boss, a new standalone novel from bestselling author Tracy Brown.

At the height of her career at a wildly popular magazine and on the rise in an enviable social circle, she’s beginning to think that maybe she can have it all. The Inheritance (The Innkeepers) by Rochelle Alers – February 28, 2017
I feel like Rochelle Alers has been on a little hiatus. Yes, Cherry Lane was released in 2015 but that’s a long time for me to wait for a book for from one of my favorite authors. Yes, I am spoiled when it comes to romance novels, don’t judge me. 🙂
“In bestselling author Rochelle Alers’ passionate, uplifting new series, four friends from very different backgrounds find new beginnings amid the sultry beauty of New Orleans…
Corporate attorney Hannah DuPont-Lowell always pictured herself returning to New Orleans to retire—just not yet. But after her Manhattan company abruptly lays off its staff, there’s no better place to figure out a next move than the porch of her plantation-style home.
Nestled in the stunning Garden District, the DuPont House has been in Hannah’s family for two centuries. With its eighteen rooms and two guesthouses, it’s far more home than widowed Hannah needs. Still, it could make a wonderful inn, especially if she can convince her friends and former coworkers Tonya, Jasmine, and Nydia to join in the venture. But in the meantime, Hannah has a high school reunion to attend…
College Professor St. John McNair, Hannah’s one-time classmate, is still the finest guy in any room. Between Hannah’s willowy, blonde beauty, and his uncanny resemblance to Marvin Gaye, they make a striking pair. And gradually, their rekindled friendship moves toward romance. Still, Hannah is too bruised by her late husband’s infidelities to trust a man again. But her friends’ arrival and encouragement just might show her a path through uncertainty—straight to a vibrant, joyful new life…”

Black Privilege by Charlamagne tha God – April 18, 2017
Charlamagne tha God’s opinions are deemed controversial by many but one thing that can’t be denied is his sickening work ethic and drive.
“Charlamagne Tha God—the self-proclaimed “Prince of Pissing People Off,” co-host of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, and “hip-hop’s Howard Stern”—shares his unlikely success story as well as how embracing one’s truths is a fundamental key to success and happiness.
In his new book, Charlamagne Tha God presents his comic, often controversial, and always brutally honest insights on how living an authentic life is the quickest path to success. Beginning with his journey from the small town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina to his headline grabbing interviews with celebrities like Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Hillary Clinton, he shares how he turned his troubled early life around by owning his (many) mistakes and refusing to give up on his dreams, even after his controversial opinions got him fired from several on-air jobs. Combining his own story with bold advice and his signature commitment to honesty at all costs, Charlamagne hopes this book will give others the confidence to live their own truths.”
