The 5 Best Crime Thrillers

I like my movies with a healthy dose of mystery, drama, and crime. Crime movies are a dime a dozen if we’re being perfectly honest,  but great ones take work. Great crime movies take the right storyline, perfect characters, intrigue and make it one that audiences can’t forget.

There are quite a few really well done crime thrillers but I wanted to challenge myself and stick to just five. So after mulling it over, these are the ones I came up with; the 5 best crime thrillers, aka my absolute favorites. 🙂

Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs was released when I was very young and I think I watched it way too early. I didn’t appreciate the film or its place in this genre until a few years ago. This film was Quentin Tarantino’s writing and directorial debut about a diamond heist gone wrong. Everything that could go wrong, did and it didn’t happen without Tarantino’s trademarks of very violent crime scenes and many pop culture references laced with profanity.

American Gangster

“Hey! Don’t rub on that! You blot that! Ya understand? That’s alpaca! That’s $25,000 alpaca! You blot that shit! You don’t rub it, put the club soda on there.”

Based on a true story, American Gangster is one of my top 10 movies of all time. Denzel Washington brought a charisma, likability, and a bit of angst to Frank Lucas that audiences couldn’t help but be intrigued by.

The Godfather

I don’t have to even explain why this film is on the list. It should be on everyone’s list. If it it isn’t then I don’t know how much you can be trusted. It is widely considered one of the best and most influential films and those of us who are major fans knows that this comes as no surprise.

U.S. Marshals

U.S. Marshals was my shit! I loved Wesley Snipes and Tommy Lee Jones together. They were on opposite sides of the law but had an underlying camaraderie that I liked.

Man on Fire

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED DENZEL IN THIS MOVIE! Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning had great chemistry in this movie and their relationship was very authentic. It was more than just body guard and employer, their father-daughter relationship translated very well on screen. And who didn’t like seeing Denzel cut off people’s fingers and put detonators where the sun doesn’t shine all in the name of saving his favorite girl?

Do you like crime thrillers? If so, what are some of your favorites?
