Take a Trip to the Caribbean with these Romance Novels

I love destination novels. It’s great to read along while both you and the characters are swept away by the allure and decadence of another country or city.

As a Caribbean girl, it’s only right that my first list about destination romance novels feature places where the water is crystal blue and the sun is always shining.

How Stella Got Her Groove Back – Terry McMillan

how stella got her groove back

Destination: Jamaica

Everyone knows the story. Even if you’ve never read the book, I know you’ve seen the film. Let’s revisit Stella and Winston and by the end, we’ll have an extra pep in our step and maybe a new groove too. 🙂

Per Amazon:

Stella Payne is forty-two, divorced, a high-powered investment analyst, mother of eleven-year-old Quincy—and she does it all. In fact, if she doesn’t do it, it doesn’t get done, from Little League carpool duty to analyzing portfolios to folding the laundry and bringing home the bacon. She does it all well, too, if her chic house, personal trainer, BMW, and her loving son are any indication. So what if there’s been no one to share her bed with lately, let alone rock her world? Stella doesn’t mind it too much; she probably wouldn’t have the energy for love—and all of love’s nasty fallout—anyway.

But when Stella takes a spur-of-the-moment vacation to Jamaica, her world gets rocked to the core—not just by the relaxing effects of the sun and sea and an island full of attractive men, but by one man in particular. He’s tall, lean, soft-spoken, Jamaican, smells of citrus and the ocean—and is half her age. The tropics have cast their spell and Stella soon realizes she has come to a cataclysmic juncture: not only must she confront her hopes and fears about love, she must question all of her expectations, passions, and ideas about life and the way she has lived it.

Told in Stella’s own exuberant, dead-on, dead honest voice, How Stella Got Her Groove Back is full of Terry McMillan’s signature humor, heart, and insight. More than a love story, it is ultimately a novel about how a woman saves her own life—and what she must risk to do it.

Stay With Me (Ecstasy Island Book 1) – Maureen Smith

stay with me

Destination: St. Mirabelle

Maureen Smith takes us to St. Mirabelle in a recent series. Stay With Me is a fun, sexy, and shortish read that will have you trying to find a way to this tropical paradise. I’m hoping Smith releases the next installment to this saga soon.

Per Amazon:

Four women…
One ancient legend…
An invitation to ecstasy…

Dallas reporter Sydney Russell is in desperate need of stress relief. When she and her best friends are invited to spend three weeks in the tropical paradise of St. Mirabelle, it’s just what the doctor ordered. Boasting white-sand beaches and lush rainforests, the beautiful Caribbean island throbs with an unmistakable sensuality…the kind that promises untold pleasures.

The moment Sydney arrives and locks gazes with a breathtakingly sexy stranger, she knows that this will be the vacation of a lifetime. Although Dr. Tristan McCade isn’t her usual type, she can’t resist the fierce arousal he awakens in her. When he offers her a ride to her luxury resort, she surrenders to their explosive mutual attraction. It’s the most reckless thing she’s ever done, but her steamy island adventure is just getting started.

As she falls deeper under Tristan’s seductive spell, not only does she lose her inhibitions…she soon finds herself losing her heart. But when her three weeks in paradise are up, will she be able to walk away from the one and only man she’s ever loved?

STAY WITH ME is an interracial BWWM erotic romance novella with fantasy elements. There will be four books in the Ecstasy Island series.

Bachelor Undone (Bachelors in Demand Book 3) – Brenda Jackson

bachelor undone

Destination: Jamaica

It’s Brenda Jackson with her Bachelors in Demand series. In book 3, we take a trip to Jamaica where a certified bachelor is exposed to the one thing he never thought he would have to call his own: love.

Per Amazon:

Every woman wants him. But he only wants her.

When Darcy Owens leaves snowy New York for some Jamaican fun in the sun, the city planner isn’t expecting to meet the hero of her fantasies. But the sexy, sun-kissed man she sees her first day on the beach comes pretty close. Until he turns out to be York Ellis, the drop-dead-gorgeous but supremely arrogant ex-cop who thinks she needs his protection…and his passion.

When York looks at Darcy, he knows she’s the woman he’d give his life for. So when Darcy finds herself in peril, the security expert vows to safeguard her. Now it’s not only his body at risk. It’s his heart he’s in danger of losing when she tempts him with the one thing the sworn bachelor never dreamed he’d find: passionate, glorious love.

This list tells me that I definitely need to make a trip to Jamaica soon. I can’t lie, I feel some sort of way that there hasn’t been a romance novel set in the Turks and Caicos Islands as yet. There’s Second Honeymoon from James Patterson but that’s more thriller and suspense than romance. Maybe I’ll be the one to remedy that one day soon 🙂
