The Summer 2016 Movie Preview

I love Summer for the endless BBQ’s and great weather (though 100-degree weather works my nerves at times). However, one of the most exciting things about Summer to me are the films released this time of year. Granted, we don’t get Oscar contenders during the summertime but we’re always guaranteed a blockbuster or two.

So grab some popcorn and mark your calendars, this is the ultimate Summer 2016 movie preview:

Captain America: Civil War – May 6th

This movie has been out for over a month now but I am a Marvel girl so damn it I’m putting it on the list. Besides, it’s still in movie theaters so now is as good of a time as any to watch this film. I finally caught it about 3 and a half weeks ago and it was so good! I’m not just saying that because I stan for Marvel either. It was well done and most importantly, we were introduced to Black Panther. I am now so hyped for Black Panther than they can start pre-selling tickets now and I will buy a few.

Mind you, the movie hasn’t even begun production. #dontjudgeme

Free State of Jones – June 24th

Matthew McConaughey stars as Newton Knight in this film. It follows Knight’s rebellion against the Confederacy in the 1800’s and his relationship with a freed slave played Gugu Mbatha-Raw who I absolutely love and is one of my favorite actresses.

Jason Bourne – July 29th

I love me some Jason Bourne and am excited about Matt Damon coming back as the amnesiac assassin. Julia Stiles returns with new additions Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander.

Suicide Squad – August 5th

My allegiance is always with Marvel but I appreciate DC characters. Suicide Squad features three of my favorite people in Viola Davis, Will Smith, and Jared Leto so, of course, I’m going to be front and center. Based on this trailer, DC and Warner Bros. may finally get me to love one of their films. It’s a bit ironic that it will feature their super-villains, though. Oh, and did I mention that Common is also in the film?! 🙂

Southside With You – August 26th

Tika Sumpter and Parker Sawyers star as lawyer Michelle Robinson and community organizer Barack Obama respectively in a film that is sure to win over the hearts of many. Southside With You takes us on the President and First Lady’s first date in 1989 before 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue became their address.

When the Bough Breaks – September 9th

Though most of us consider Summer to be over at the end of August, it doesn’t technically end until September 21st. With that being the case, I feel quite alright putting this film on this Summer list. I love a solid romantic thriller and When the Bough Breaks has potential.
